Do I need a certificate to skipper it?

At present not. If you intend taking the vessel abroad you will need an International Certificate of Competence (ICC). This is not hard to achieve. Short courses are arranged through the Royal Yachting Association (RYA). You will also need a CEVNI endorsement. This is concerned with the signals used in rivers, canals and locks in France and again one-day courses are arranged by the RYA.

Will my barge hold its value?

There is always a market for good scond-hand new-build barges. Unlike converted trading barges which tend to need more maintenance and repairs, they do fetch high prices.

What if I want to take my barge across the channel?

If you do not have the experience yourself, there are several delivery companies based in the UK. You will need to notify your insurance company of your intentions and there may be a small additional premium to pay.
